Milky Way, first attempt at wide field.

Had a go at getting a wide field shot of the Milky Way tonight.

This is my first attempt with the 350D tripod mounted, 10-22mm wide field lens, 30 seconds, Av 4.5, ISO 1600, f/l 10mm.

Only adjusted lighting and contrast slightly.

Also got the Pergola Neb in the shot

This shot would clean up nicely with a bit of tweeking.

Nice camera and lens for widefield imaging.

Nice shot.... I'm surprised at how much Milky Way you captured, given an untracked shot.... high ISO..... would be nice to have a tracking mount and do it at ISO 200 or 400 right??

Nice stuff, i always get confused here.

Tripod mounted but you are not tracking??? is that right

Any longer and you would get star trails???

Thanks for the comments, the 10-22mm is an extremly wide lens, even with the 1.6x, at 16mm, it takes in a huge angle of view.

I would love to have tracking with this set-up, longer exposure times, no star trails, soon i hope.

Dave, yes it's mounted on a camera tripod no tracking, fixed and set to 30 second exposure, i thinkthat with the wider lend and less magnification, you might be able to get longer exposure times without too much trailing on the stars, with say a 300mm lens, the exposure time would be less to avoid trails, i think that's right

I have way too much light polution here to get anything much better than this, and registax and neatimage just confuse me no end, need to learn these programs.

The clouds are back again, so no more practice tonight

I also resolved some very fine detail on the power-pole nebula (ngc 240-415V) in the constellation of 'currentus irregulus' with a 6" refractor!

Oh! & here's a pic of the door-frame nebula...(ngc 4X2) in the constellation of woodenus rottenus..

Great work asimov. Do you realise you have discovered a supa-nova in the door-frame nebula?

Well done.

When you get it it is worth getting Roger from BATSC to get rid of the grease and fix the worm drives up to significantly reduce the PE
