Well, I made it to my Job Interview! I borrowed next doors Van to get there (I sold it to him to buy my 12" Dob).
I had to 'Prove' a strong interest in Rugby League, evidence of any sport-teaching experience to kids, any evidence of promoting Rugby League, proof of computer literacy, proof of an ability to write reports and anything else to help with the position.
I went fully armed with my '100 competition games award', evidence of my selection into the Australian Rugby Team, evidence of playing in and winning 6 Grand Finals, originals of all the newspaper write-ups, articles I have written for newspapers and RL magazines, proof of the district and clubs I have started, Coaching credentials, emails from other clubs thanking me for helping them, samples of my PC literacy (copies of website pages and heaps of stuff done in Office, Excel etc.) and a BIG smile!
The interview went for half an hour and was with the Victorian head of ARL Development and a lady from the ARL in Sydney.
They asked about a thousand questions often talking over top of each other (which one do I answer first?) and the whole episode was very draining.
They informed me that they had another 12 people to see that day (there was 1 before me) and then they were holding interviews in Sydney the next day, then they would be in France for 3 weeks holding Interviews for RL Development Officers over there as well.
They will inform applicants of the outcome after they get back from France
in about 4-5 weeks time.
I hate the waiting game
I think I did OK, but I know I rattled on because of nerves! I had evidence of experience to fit every requirement they asked for plus I had proof that I have experience in what they teach the new staff!! The training they give is to teach new staff how to hold school clinics, organise competitions and hold a Gala Day. I have already done all these for the ARL! That shocked them!!
I must now wait . . . and wait . . . and wait!
p.s. There are only 3 positions available.
