Seeking observing location over xmas - NSW mid north coast

I'll be spending two weeks over xmas at my wife's family's beachhouse (with her family) at Diamond beach, on the mid-north coast of NSW.

As with most inlaws, I like them, but 2 weeks is too much . Thankfully, my wife understands this, and I'll take a few days off in this period where I can go bush and hopefully do some observing .

I'm looking for recommendations for an observing location near (within 3 or 4 hours drive) the mid north coast of NSW where I can camp, preferably with my dog, and do some quality observing.

Barrington Tops, including Lostock, is a viable option. As are the national parks north of BT. It may also be worth a drive to Siding Spring .

Does anyone ahve any recommendations?
