Jupiter transit events, 24/06/2005

Hey guys.

If the sky is clear for you tomorrow night, it's worth a peek at Jupiter.

Io and Europa, and their shadows, and the GRS are all transitting between approx 6:00pm AEST until the GRS finally leaves at around midnight.

Here's the timeline:

Io and Europa ingress: Approx 6pm
Io shadow ingress: 7:20pm
GRS rise: 7:45pm
Io egress: 8:15pm
Europa egress: 8:40pm
Europa shadow ingress: 8:40pm
Io shadow egress: 9:35pm
GRS transit meridian: 10:10pm
Europa shadow egress: 11:10pm
GRS set: 12:35am

All times AEST.

Hope someone gets to see it, and take some images!

Thanks for the heads up! I'm always interested in imaging double transits
with a GBS in the mix. Hopefully hurricane season will end here around
lunch time tomorrow. Pitty about the moon though.

The Jetstream has gone from Sydney for the moment (http://squall.sfsu.edu/gif/jetstream_sohem_00.gif) , but it's not looking favourable that the skies will be clear tonight to image this event..

Just had a lookie from my backyard . Skies are clear here in Melbourne but the seeing is pretty poor.

Caught the two moons ingressing while testing out my new Nagler. It was an unusual sight as the two moons where tight together. I followed them across the limb of the planet and they were both easily visible just inside the Jupiter's disk. I had to leave it there and disappear inside, and by the time I got back out Jupiter had moved behind the tall trees that back onto my backyard Hopefully someone was imaging and got the shadows on the disk. Still, seeing the moons in tight formation cross the limb was plenty good enough for me.

Through my scope (before it froze up) I saw the 2 moons really close to each other but no hope of any decent pics. Tried and failed. I stuck my attempt in the photography section.

just got out.. clear night but close to full moon and a fair bit of fog where i am meant it was a bit of a challenge. My goal of the night was too see the GRS.. and.. after abit of 'bobbing and weaving'.. I GOT IT!!! i could just make it out with the 9mm.. i tiny beige spot near the second dark band. it was AWESOME! I found it did take a fair bit of moving my eye around to get my eye to focus on it.. and my eye seemed to water up too at times but it was awesome. I've just ordered a barlow and a 15mm eyepiece.. working with 2 eyepieces is getting abit tiresome. They're just GSO's but they'll do me for the time being, gotto start somewhere. I think after that a telrad might be the way to go.. as even though i'm getting used to it slowly.. upside down and back to front on the finder takes some getting used to.

Got a pretty good look here, it clouded in at around 10:20pm and that was that. Patchy clouds most of the night. So I didn't bother dragging the PC out into the yard

Anyone get some decent images?
