Interesting to see if it can accommodate various mount heads. Opens up a different part of the market to them.

On Yahoo groups someone guessed at US$800, which at 0.92 is approx AU$870. Go on Paul – you need one! LOL

mmm, doesnt look as HD duty as the standard tripod, but certainly easier to use, and that V series dovetail stuff looks very thin and spindly. Cheaper, but Losmandy built its reputation on solid gear, dunno, looks dodgy.

Hi Paul

Before you order one, just to re-iterate, it was only a guess by a poster, so not to sure of its fidelity?

Cheers

On the BOM website Radar Image, I could a bank of dark storm clouds building up over your house, highly correlated to the intended purchase of new astro-goodies! LOL

Actually I just had another look and I'm scratching my head abit. How would you mount the G11 on there? You must need to buy a pier head or something to go on there as there is no sleeve to slide the G11 head into.

The tripod appears to be non-adjustable and that for me is a disadvantage. Thats why I use a Meade field tripod with an adapter for my G11 and I've found it very stable with the 10" on it. But don't let me influence either David or Paul - go ahead and buy it then I'll know at least 2 sources for second hand.

This has been mentioned on the Losmandy Group and it seems that unless you have the G-11 legs, you need to get the head, legs and a Meade Adapter (MA) to mount a G-11 or GM-8, so it appears to be somewhat more expensive than the standard tripod.

looks like the same legs as the standard one, it would certainly be more portable, just not sure how you would bolt the head onto it at the moment.
Doesnt look too bad..... wont be buying one as mine lives in the observatory and i cant see myself extracting it to go anywhere.

Losmandy has a sort of "pot" the G11 sits in when useing a pier. From what I remember that would make it easier to fit to a non standard tripod base.

Isn't the "pot" the MA adapter as shown in the attached pic or have I confused this with another adapter.

That's the one - the Meade Adaptor..... don't know why it's called a Meade Adaptor though. It just bolts through any pier plate.
