Exclamation 300 users! (and welcome, kevin! :))

Well we've reached another milestone! 300 registered users on the IceInSpace Forums!

Congratulations everyone on a job well done! The forums are growing from strength to strength, with lots of new blood coming in lately and participating in the discussions, asking for and giving advice, and joining in what has become the biggest and best astronomy community downunder.

Thanks to everyone who has been a part of this, including Terry, the moderators, everyone who has donated, and of course all you guys who make this place what it is. A friendlier, more mature bunch of guys I've not met.

The best part for me is seeing people get together with their local observing groups - I know for me, there was nothing on the central coast before. I didn't know anyone else interested in astronomy. But now thanks to these forums, we've got a group of 10-12 guys who regularly get together every new moon to observe together, have fun looking at the stars, joking around and talking about astronomy. Real friendships are being made. And that's also seen with other local observing groups in SE Queensland, Melbourne, SA and other places. That's what it's all about. And that's what I hope to see continue in other parts around the place where IceInSpace members live close to each other. All it takes is 1 post to get the ball rolling..

The amount of newbies who have been given good advice by members here, who've gone and bought their first telescope and are now participating in this great hobby is also something i'm very proud to have been a part of. Getting new people into the hobby is what everyone wants, and being given the right advice, helped and nurtured through the selection process, and of course then the learning curve of actually using the thing, will ensure that the newbies don't get turned off by cheap wobbly telescopes with plastic eyepieces that won't focus properly. I think we've helped to flood the market with GSO dobs

In a related milestone, we've also just passed 25,000 posts.. keep it up guys! Keep the discussions flowing.

The next milestone, 400 or 500 users? 50,000 posts? We'll continue to grow, and with your support things can only look up.

Please, refer a friend or two to the forums. Let them know we exist.. newbies and experienced people alike.. If you belong to an astronomy society or know others with an interest, please send them the URL and get them to come and say g'day. We encourage discussions about what telescope to buy, as well as discussions about the science of astronomy, observing logs and habits, keep posting your astrophotography and of course all the fun chat in the general chat forum.

Well done to everyone on our success to date, and lets keep it going!

How do you find out what member number you are?
When I open the member list all I see is "user name" "join date" "posts" and "avatar"
No member number anywhere.

Isnt being an astro nut a pre-requisite of joining this site?

A big welcome Kevin from No 17

Great post Mike, and I'm also proud to be part of this wonderful site. It's been fantastic to watch it grow from almost the beginning to a thriving astro community.
