Playing with PST

The chance arose a couple of weeks ago for another cheapie-ish PST which I snappped up for playing with. Here's the result! I tune one for prominences and one for faculae. Impressive

Very clever. Is it hard to align them? Can you vary the interpupillary distance?

Cheers,

Brian.

Brian

the first two pics show the IPD adjustment - I can go from about 54mm to 100mm

Aligning is fairly easy - either a Allen key between the two when you set up or just by looking through them. Odd that they are not both anywhere near the same size (or shape even)... tolerances I guess but I seem to have the maximum and the minimum scopes

Well done, Arthur. I can see that I'm going to be dreaming about binocular PSTs for a while.

Damn hobby!

Arfer,
you'd have to be careful of what the neighbours thought though. With the recent news, they could be mistaken for a weapon of mass destruction.

Hi Arthur

Is this the PST binocular tube mount made by Howie Glator company , if so what is it worth?

Hi Mark - good grief no! He's after US$389 for one of those

This is one I ran up at Ambermile because I had a couple of PST's to play with It's a real simple design - takes maybe a couple hours to make.

I imagine though that the Howie Glator model has all the bells and whistles , like adjustable collimation etc.

Do you find the view of surface features significantly enhanced with it? My experience with the PST showed it had avery low satisfactory magnification range and I thought it would really be enhanced in binocular mode.

Mark - what makes you say the Glatter model has collimation? Only difference here is his is screw adjustable for IPD and mine is slide and clamp...

Yes, the surface detail is much better in two than in one
