That's very cool. With so many dashcams around we're bound to see a lot more of these.

Is it true that its illegal to keep meteorites if you find them? You have to hand them in to the correct authorities?

"Federal laws protect meteorites found in Australia and it is an offence to export one without a permit. In Western Australia and South Australia legislation means that meteorites are the property of the Government and must be lodged with an appropriate Museum. In other States, the finder is able to keep a meteorite.May 11, 2016"

You are allowed to buy and collect meteorites that were found overseas.

Thanks Rick for clearing that up for me. I'm in QLD so if one dropped in my backyard I'm OK to keep it.

You would find it hard to turn in...
Imagine finding it and not being able ro keep it...the ultimate treasure in my world.
It would be so cool...and you look at it and there is something clearly from an intelligent world..a gear or something telling you there was someone like us out there before their planet was destroyed.. .and it had magic powers that would enable you to fly ...it would be like finding a puppy you would love it right away...my precious...mmmm
Hang the ethics I would take it into the hills ... imagine having something from out of this world that you found...I can and it would be for me the ultimate spin.

Indeed. Considering the tiny size of my suburban block, anything landing in my yard could be considered a near death experience. I'd keep it just for emotional compensation
