Bah!!!!!!!!!!

Well

Wouldn't you know it.

Friday arvo rolls around and it's 34 degrees and there's smoke everywhere

I've even got Monday off and the forecast remains for fine and sunny conditions. Which would be great except for the smoke blowing over from Gippsland

I share your frustration, Matt. It seems like ages since I've had my scope out... OK it's ages since I've looked through it, I did have it out not long ago just in time to pack it up again as the cloud rolled over...

Given the weather/smoke we've had lately I'm not feeling too bad about taking a weekend off to go to the beach... Looks like it should be good beach weather, and the smoke doesn't affect my bodysurfing too much...

Al.

The smoke down here is covering much of Victoria!

They say this is the largest bushfire down here since the 1930's!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Ken . I heard that on the news tonight.

They reckon the conditions this weekend don't look too favourable for the firies. Hot and windy.

Fingers crossed no-one gets hurt... or worse

Hi Matt, just had a look outside and its still the same, a nice smoke layer blotting out the sky with a lovely light pollution glow highlighting it

cheers

Yep. Have just packed the 9.25 away Ric.

Caught a brief glimpse of Rigel which I managed to split before the cloud fully closed the sky out.

Hope we get some clear skies before the weekend's done

That would be nice to get some viewing in this weekend. Glad to see you managed to see something, I didnt even bother to set up tonight.

Actually, the last few times I have set up I have been called out with the RFS to an incident, the last one being at Lake George, but if I dont set up the phone stays quiet.

cheers

The stars were out tonight so I thought as it's been a few weeks since I have done anything I might have a go at some imaging. I am not very optimistic about the results, I imaged NGC1977 and NGC253 and then gave up as the viewing was below average to poor and it was very humid. Orion was barely visible with the naked eye and by 1:00am the smoke haze was starting to move in again and the moon was getting in the way.
I'll do some processing tomorrow and see exactly what I got from the data.

cheers
