Basically - New Telstra Modem (Cable) as thought other modem was faulty but apparently maybe not ?
Very very new PC, latest Gigabyte motherboard with latest I7 processor, windows 7, windows essentials. 2 x 250gig SState drives
Problem: Hook Lappy to Ethernet = Internet
Hook PC to same Ethernet = No Internet
Take PC to PC DR = gets internet, totally no issues, no bugs, not a single piece of malware or any issue, zilch, PC perfect in every way !
At home: Modem, cable, ports perfect in every way.
Modem signal reaching PC Ethernet Port with both lights working. No connection to internet ?
Plug Ethernet to Lappy - no worries, internet connection !
When New Modem arrived, a week ago, I set it up, connected the PC via Ethernet, got internet no worries, - next night, no internet and since then no internet, yet PC is perfect, and Modem perfect & is sending signal to Ethernet port - No connection ? Take PC to Dr, gets internet no worries,,,
What the heck is going on ?? Finding this very very strange ??

And share what your details are - particularly IPv4 address, Subnet mask, default gateway, DHCP server, and your likely 3 DNS servers
Is the Telestra Modem a combination modem / router? If so post a picture of it and what ports you have connected cables too. If it stored the Lappy MAC address somewhere it might be puzzled when you hook up a device with a different MAC address on the same port. Could be many other things, need more data to analyse the fault.
The Ethernet port light is Not on as I didn't have it plugged into PC at the time !
Im not sure how to even open a Command prompt, Lol, where/how do i get one of them open - -
I have just now restored factory setting on modem, have connected the lappy with wireless only - works fine ! Plucking up couraged to try the PC through the No 1 Ethernet Port now - nerves, Lol

Reason: Add Pics .
Just hope it lasts this time ? Like you mentioned, may or most likely was conflicting with two units using the same port - who'd of thought, not this duck
Mmmm, puutas, mind boggling - give a broken down Ford anyday
Thanx for jigging some action Mathew, appreciate it very much
Breathing a little easier now, but prob have another heart flutter when i power up tomoro night ? ? Lol
Have you tried opening the "Network and Sharing Center" (Start menu>control panel)
That will show a basic diagram showing pc---network--internet
If you dont have internet access you will have a cross thru the network--x--internet.
Try clicking on the 'x' and see if windows can fix the problem. Sometimes it can, depending on the problem.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Yes John, I have tried both IE & Chrome to do a Diagnose of the internet connection with no results,, ,,, Tho I havent started by clicking on that cross you mention, I do have a cross there tho, so ill try it from there, but will probably be the same diagnostic tool, just a different way of opening I guess, I also have an 'exclamation mark' down on the taskbar icon too, ?
Funny tho, if I switch the ethernet cable and plug into lappy after turning the lappy 'wireless of - I get internet through the ethernet on lappy no probs ?
That really looks like a combination broadband modem, Router, and 4 port switch to me. Post a picture of the model / part number if you can,
As a hint always try and plug devices into the same yellow ports 1 -> 4 (not the red uplink port next to the round black broadband cable).
You open a command prompt by click the home Start icon, selecting under all programs that search box, and typing cmd. this will open a DOS like shell, then you type
ipconfig /all
or
ipconfig /all > c:/networkstats.txt
which will create the file networkstats.txt as a text file.
Telstra ph tech support had me type in command prompt; NCPA.CPL which opened a 'local area connection' network logo thingo - then right click and click on 'dissable. - let it flicker - & right click again and 'enable'
This made the connection work, but only once. it is like a manual switch, when I close down the internet, I cant get it again unless I do this manual switch again !
The Tech says that it is most likely a software-program issue/fault with the PC / network card or Ethernet port or a driver or something else similar ??
Looks like the PC is going back to the puuter builder work-shop tomoro (Sat) morn or Monday ?
Found the 'Error' 651, - working on it ?
Have googled it and came up with some remedies to try
Ahhhh,, there is small glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel yet !
Bob, we tackle these problems all the time at work. The problem is most likely with your router or could be caused by smartphone or tablet connections if you use those.
The next time you can't get a connection turn off every device but for one PC, then see if the problem still exists.
Assuming the internet authentication is done on the router, browse the gateway IP from your web browser, most routers have a status area which should tell you whether the router is connected and authenticated.
Mobile devices i.e. iPad, IPhone, and Android devices can be notoriously badly behaved on wifi, I've lost track of the number of times we've been called to check faulty cabling only to find that a smartphone or tablet is bringing down the network.
The best remedy for that is to check the router's settings and statically assign dhcp addresses against each device, that will assure you have no IP address conflicts. I've found at least 5 sites where doing that stopped the network issues, once the Tablets and phones had static assignments the problems were solved.
The phone/tablet issue is caused by the device assuming it has the same IP lease when the router has re-assigned the lease to another device and two devices end up with the same IP, it's a well documented problem. Good quality switches have ability to continue working with IP address conflicts, but the average home and budget business gear simply falls in a heap.
Ill do a power cycle and turn off both my & missus's lappy's, my iPhone and her Samsung andriod phone & restart my PC check for net connection, if so, will do a restart and see if connects twice in a row - this should/could confirm modem issue and conflicking then ?
will reply later tonight, still have some other chores to do, Lol
I have also let a friend know you thoughts and related info, he has more of a clue than I, so hope can get him here to run through (statically assigning dhcp addresses against each device) one day soon if this is the case
Really appreciate your time and input, Phil & Mathew & John
Also have these attached screen snips if any use ?
I have manually connected to net at the moment, but the problem is - I have to manually connect each & every time when I restart the PC - I guess a could leave it sleep mode until the problem is resolved - maybe it needs a good sleep
Bob see my pic, right click on your connection [ethernet in my case], then select properties [Ip4} then select properties again -you want to see the tick dots in the automatic DNS address boxes, if you have a series of numbers in the bottom DNS box untick it & select automatic -we are gtting a lot of annoying ware changing this setting at work -game sites also a problem
