Need Help regarding a Dire Straits Concert

I know this sounds an odd one, but I am trying to obtain a DVD/BluRay even better of a concert they did in Sydney in the mid 80's. It was done as a simulcast at the time, all I can find are cruddy YouTube grainy clips or NTSC on the web. Surely there is a decent version of it out there. I originally watched it live and recorded it onto a VHS tape, and it was superb, but somehow I have lost it. Any help would be much appreciated. From memory it was called Dire Straits live in Sydney 1986

Wow!!
That brings back memories.

I worked as a stage builder and roof rigger on that tour.
Did not work on the Sydney gigs as they were indoors.
The rest of the tour was great, hard work but had a good time.

Can't help with the video I'm afraid, best of luck on your search.

Hi Phil, I noticed that one, I know there is apparently a dual layer version out there that would obviously be one DVD, this one is a 2 DVD set. Also being NTSC from what I have found in the past, is that one gets "lines" and a smaller image, although I may be wrong on that. I know it is only a 4:3 image too, but that is what was normal then.
Thanks for finding.

Hehe I was at the Sydney concert It was indeed awesome.

There was a double CD set of live recording from the Alchemy tour, has a rather avant-garde graphic - which was ok though the audio obviously not of studio quality. Personal memory is that the Sydney concert was better than this 2 CD set.

In the Sydney concert the original sax player for the tracks from "Local Hero" was down with the flu and Mark Knopfler had recruited someone from "I'm Talking" (Kate Ceberano's band at the time).

If you have the real recording of the Sydney concert, in "Romeo and Juliet" Mark slips in an ad-lib reference to the Don Lane show which was on latenight TV at the time.

There's also a DVD of dire straits video clips - "Sultans of Swing - the very best of Dire Straits" from that era which I like rather more as it includes twisting by the pool - from the single

If you can spare a dime then I know a dozen places you might be able to find what you are looking for.

There were two concerts in Sydney - Brothers in Arms in '85 and Alchemy in '86.

This is the Sydney concert final night.

As mentioned there's an ad-lib in Romeo and Juliet which is not present in some of the othera that purport to be from the Sydney concert.

Slightly off topic but my sister-in-law was the skater girl in the UK video clip for their song Skateaway. Unfortunately she hasn't been able to locate footage of the clip. Apparently there were different clips for different countries - eg an Australian skater for the UK and so on.

Absolutely love the live version of Going Home from the Alchemy tour.

Paul

PS Good luck with finding footage of the concert you're after. (Have you tried Fleabay?)

PPS Just found this for you.
