Howling at the moon

Bit over an hour and a half in Scorpius in the prawn area. This is the wolf nebula. Quite faint and noisy but some decent details.

Big one here [3327x2491 - 4.7MB]
HD Version here [1920x1438 - 1.6MB]

Bit of a challenge to process. Needs a lot more data and moonless dark skies. Still I like the framing and details.

Yes I found the Wolf area hard to process as well. I think its a very starry field and the dark areas need a fair bit of exposure to overcome the noise.

The history brush technique set to multiply helps so does the burn tool.

Greg.

Thanks Russel. I don't think I'll add color to this one. It's very faint and I don't really have the time to spend on it given the few clear nights we're getting. Plus it's all red in RGB. quite boring. 2min subs only.

Scorpius is a great area for narrowband. I spent a lot of time in the area.

The HiRes versions aren't dogs either (well they are but...). Good result Marc, and I'm with Michael on the composition. Very nice.

Marc, your wide-field H-alpha shots make magnificent maps.

... and if a wolf did come out of the forest, what then, eh?

Just wonderful!

Thanks for checking it out Mike. That would be a good target for your light bucket.

What a great looking monochrome photo Marc.

Beautiful tones and contrasts.

Love the composition.
