Possibly, but I can't see how it could ever be as accurate as DSC's with encoders.
There was some discussion on the skyscout a few months ago, I can't remember what the general consensus was but i'm sure people will chip in again here

Had the same thought when they first came out some months ago. They are not advertised for such a purpose though, only to be hand held. With Fathers day comming up, hope someone gets one to try.

Apparently the skyscout cannot be used by Left handers, dunno how true it is but just heard it.

This unit may be quite accurate, depending on the design of course...
Solid state accelerometers, if properly used (and if they are used in this design), can achieve accuracy of 0.1 % or better, which is 3 arc minutes.
