I won't be here for this.......

Oh dear .... what a way to go out .... it's all happening .... 866 years from now ( the Mayans got it wrong ) .. .. I can hear the last question ever asked....

What were you doing on the day the Asteroid hit.....

Answer ... no answer at all .... everyone and everything is gone.....

Look at the ' ODDS ' they give on a direct ' hit ' ..... 1 in 300 . ( that's not good in Astronomical terms )

Taken out of this weeks ' Sunday Mail '

Flash .....

Those odds are based on old (2006) estimates. The latest analysis put it in the range of 1 in 4000. And I think by 2880, if we still have a civilization to be concerned about this, we'll have the tech to do essentially anything we want with this bit of space rock...

That's a fair way off, and I tend to forget important things like this.

Can we make this thread a "sticky"?

Yeah, we'll mine it into nothing but dust , as we would have consumed all our resources by then.

By the time it hits I should have learned enough about photography to get a decent picture of it. Starting the countdown ....... only 316,144 days to go !!!

Lemme guess - it's Cataclysmic Asteroid 2014/Lovejoy? (sorry Terry )

866 years - I hope by then we have figured out at least that we could send a probe 10 years early - shades of Rosetta - and actually kapowie it into dust.

Or better still, amassed enough money globally to actually decide it's time some of us travelled away from this rock...

We're doomed!

But wait, the youtube videos say we are all doomed long before then. In fact we all died back in 2012 when Nibiru hit us!

Wait 100 years until we're good and ready. Then give it a tiny rocket- or laser- or solar-sail-assisted nudge. As a result, 750 years later, it will be somewhere completely safe. We have time on our hands
