My daughter won

My daughter has just won the Adrien Abbott poetry prize for 2013
with a poem she called Astrophysics

and it was inspired by a night of observing I invited her to come along to at a friends house at Avoca Beach.
(so that is a valid enough reason to link it here )

The Theme for the poetry competition was : "Light"

Hope you like it

remembering, she is a POET not an Astronomer

old friends,and each viewing is different.

That's great news Allan and shows her real appreciation of the magic of the sky.

I don't usually bother to read poetry (except for some song lyrics), but i'm glad I did in this case.

Congratualtions on the win.

Would 'Free Verse' be an accurate description for this style of poem?

I don't know if it is free verse, but "poetry" has sure changed from when I was at school.

She was also "shortlisted" in the Newcastle Poetry Competition this year, perhaps one of Australia's most prestigious awards; and internationally at Montreal last year;
which is great for a young poet.

When I read the first thread here and before I had read the winning poem, I sat for a bit trying to think of anything that rhymed with "astrophysics" without any success at all. Just shows how far removed I am from the poetry I was forced to learn and recite.
