Pardon me, but isn't a 'simple' convex lens a magnifying glass? these are available fron most optical shops, opsm etc.
I'm probably missing the point here. but ohh well.
i asked my photocopier repair guy if he could locate one for me cause i want to make a copyscope... i only see him about once a month so when i do if you dont have anything by then i'll put a word in fer ya... might be ages tho!
I tried to obtain some "simple magnifying glass" lenses a while back for a project ... trouble is that virtually all decent glass ones I found at any newsagent, book store, etc, were either rectangular or had a higher mag "sweet spot" ground into them, etc. I ended up with so little success finding lenses that I gave up.
I think the question to ask is, if not too intrusive, is to what purpose will the lens be put, this may trigger some specific responce.
I can offer you for the cost of postage a lens from the back of a projection tv..100mm fl comprised of all sorts of interesting shaped lens
