A quick point to note: FWIW> DO NOT charge a Sealed lead acid,(SLA), Gel-Cell with a normal car battery charger. They put out too much current & are not regulated enough for the Gel-Cell. You MUST USE a DEDICATED Gel-Cell charger which switches to trickle charge when it "senses" the peak voltage.
If you buy one of those jump starters, they come with the 240 volt plug packs & 12 volt chargers built-in/supplied.
Don't forget, more capacity is better. L.

Forgot to mention, Jaycar have special Gel/SLA chargers at low prices (under $30) that revert to trickle charge as the battery nears full charge. See the latest Jaycar cat&dog.

So, do Jaycar sell batteries as well?

Or should I get a battery from super-cheap and a charger from Jaycar?

Oh and the hairdryer from a camping store..

Who wouldn't thunk that there would be so much that you need to know just for stopping dew

I went down to the camping place and I got 12v hair dryer here are the specifications

Power: Hi Lo
120watts 90watts

Current: 10Amps 7.5Amps

Voltage: 12V DC Nominal

Cord length: 1.5m

Weight: 200gm

It also states this.... "Under 10Amps-Lowest in it's class"
I suppose it is good enough for what I want.

Mike, You get the jump starter battery from Supercheap. They come with the 240 volt & 12 volt charger supplied.
Remember, bigger is best.
I have just been notified that a boat dealer in Yallah, just up the road abit, sells 12 volt hair dryers for..... under $20.00. Will check asap & post results. L.

Just bought a 12v dryer from a local camping store, $22.
Also bought a black neoprene sleeping mat I hope to convert into a tube extension from the same place.

doh forgot about the tube extension.

I just bought a jump starter power pack from "Autobarn" for $39.99 (on sale from $69.99 they reckon), it's a 600amp one, 12Ah. It can be recharged on the 240v, or via your car cigarette lighter socket.

And I got the same hairdyer as Ed, from my local camping store. It's nowhere near as hot as the 240v one, but that was expected. It will still do the job. It's small and compact too.

There was a $23 hairdyer but it didn't have the output rating so I didn't want to get it incase it was a power sucker.
