There goes the neighbourhood...

I had been toying with the idea of moving to Tassie in retirement, village vibe, great seafood and dark skies....until I read this

http://www.canberratimes.com.au/national/-2ocg7.html

While its probably a nice light show, I prefer the one nature provides at night...

I reckon Wellington might be nice to retire too. Been to Mona - its awesome, especially the story of how he gambled his own money to fund its completion (and now the Government wishes to tax him)!

Wish those searchlights could use a single narrow-band frequency of light that astronomers don't need!

What a waste of electricity and money.
Some people have way to much time on their hands.

Strongly advise you retire to Tassie Peter, blackest skies I have ever seen..... when its not cloudy, foggy, snowing sleeting, drizzling and/or sub-zero.

Fringe morons like what's his face on a perpetual ego trip are in the minority and, thankfully, that bloody obnoxious abomination, (the lights, not "whinger" gallery of modern yuck), will be gone soon enough. Stay outa Hobart and the skies are great.

We probably should not criticise the "artist" to heavily, he might decide to move it to some more "artist" friendly place, like Adelaide.

If you really need to have your mind altered there are much cheaper ways to do it in the privacy of your own lounge room, without the light pollution.

Artistic, what a load of crap, environmental vandalism is the best way to describe wasting valuable power polluting the night sky.

They would be the same cretins that called this art

http://www.artgallery.sa.gov.au/agsa...sp?ecatKey=721

and had our idiot government pay for it with public money and waste space in the art gallery with it.

Light Pollution

This is what that damn abomination looks like. Horizon to Centaurus at the moment. Makes me want to go down there and blow the bloody thing up myself.

Do us all a favour and send an email to Mona Moron telling him that he's trying to do a compensation job, that just isn't working, and he should move to Tokyo with his little mate who has probably never seen a star in his life.

The light

Rom, glad you captured the bloody thing, should give it to the RAF museum at Hendon to illuminate the Dornier once restored!
Can't wait for the thing to go

damn, that's no good. Sometimes I can see Hollywood-style "searchlights" from my place, the bloody things really do interfere with the night sky.

I'm going to draw a line across a piece of paper and submit it to the National Gallery of Victoria. Hopefully someone will buy it for several grand and I make it into Time Magazine.

I wouldn't retire to Tassie to save my life though.

Excellent, the propaganda is working. Trying desperately to keep the population down before it turns into a mini-mainland. I've been 20yrs and refuse to leave.

I think this bloke needs a mental health plan but the local drones seem to love the crap that he keeps spitting out. The attitude is, "lets see if we can totally disgust thinking man and pander to those with a limited intellect". all in the name of art of course.

Latest laugh, convincing a bunch of locals twits to go skinny dipping at dawn on the Winter Solstice in the Derwent.... gawd, even the bloody lord mayor got into it but at least he did it for charity. I suppose.

"mofo" is an embarrassment to Tassie and an insult to intelligence IMHO

I agree with you Rom, but I also recognise that others sees this differently. To me, some of the art that people tell me is great, I find that I simply scratch my head and wonder about their sanity.

But then, if we all liked the same things, it would be a rather dull world.

Cheers Peter
