It'd make a good hat!

This is a quicky I shot last night. Been transitioning to use TheSkyX for everything (mount, focus, dome, camera, guiding, plate solve yada yada ...) via CCDAP for automation so last night I was testing it out. Since the scope was already set up for F11.7, I did 2.5 hours of lum on M104 (Sombrero).

Full res crop:
http://www.pbase.com/gailmarc/image/149662924/original

As anyone who's imaged this knows, it's quite a small target and needs focal length so I may not bother adding more to this until my RC360 arrives.

Anyway, it came out well in spite of very average seeing and it's quite deep so I was able to show the larger extent of the halo.

Cheers, Marcus

What a view Marcus!

The fine detail in the Sombrero is fabulous, and the faint background galaxies are a bonus.

Cheers,

Justin.

Some fine detail in the dust lanes & many other galaxies showing too.

This data would be nice to add to some day.

Thanks H. It needed some sharpening love via Decon and smart sharpen because the seeing wasn't stellar, but it scrubbed up OK. Can't wait to throw another 1100mm of FL at it though

Thanks Justin. Yes, there are a few ... and a few globs as well, but I'll let someone else count them!

Thanks Al. Don't know, we'll see. Focal length is king here and 1760mm isn't enough!

Love it Marcus. You can FEEL the halo in that shot. I'd love to see move of this too. Heck, can't you just let it collect all the RGB in some automated runs to keep us happy?

Thanks Rob! If the weather cooperates I might - but I have another neb target better suited to my current FL I'd like to do.

Seriously awesome detail!

You're going to do wonders with the RC360, can't wait to see what you do with it

Ah si amigo, excellante

Looking good Marcus, focal length will no doubt help give it great scale but you will still need the seeing to cooperate too...you must be chomping at the bit to get that big Italian Stallion in the Observatory ...what a dream setup you will have, the mind boggles

Mike

Thanks Mike! Still a few months to go but getting excited. And yes, be ready, I may have to complain bitterly about the seeing from time to time ... but I think you might understand!
