Another Storm Chase, another core punch..

More storms were forecast, so off I went straight after a quick meal and a beer at the pub

I decided to head out into the riverland area but soon changed my mind and darted back to the west to a little town called Burra. I went a little south of Burra and was confronted with a severe storm and unintentionally put myself in it's firing line. Unable to get away from it as it rumbled in towards my location I decided to sit it out and let it go over the top of me...

Here are a few images I took while on the chase.

Gustfront approaching.

Andrew, this http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...e_1024_005.jpg is incredible.

The light in that image... I'm dribbling...

Beautiful work.

I've been looking at a lot of lightning photography over the last couple of days.

Images like these are the ones that are inspiring me to pull the trigger and purchase a Lightning Trigger. $380 in total with the release cable, but, so much fun to be had. :O

Nice to know that it works for you for daytime shots, as there is a note on the schematics that says "Not recommended for daytime use through an SLR camera, circuit will re-trigger indefinitely"
Cheers!

I think in the original design he had the sensor looking through the viewfinder of the DSLR. Mine sits on the hotshoe. I cannot use mine during the night, it wont fire... I use 2 ND filters so I get the exposure to 1/8s or lower.

Nice work Andrew. My favourite is the same one you like. I should have gone out yesterday too. I was looking at the front moving in and thinking to myself that I ought to go out. Nice captures.

Paul, unless you were sitting on the trough line on the 30th you would have struggled to get any lightning on the camera... it was very embedded and so sporadic that having the camera pointed at the right place at the right time was near impossible, but still possible... on the night of the 30th there was quite a bit of lighting that was embedded, but being night time, made it easier to capture.

Thanks guys for the comments.

Very nice series of images Andrew!

It was a hell of a storm front.

Cheers,

Just come back for a second look. These are really awesome and inspiring.

Here's 3 humble strikes from my meteor camera - no comparison to your quality ... but still fun.
