Blue faberge egg, NGC 1360 in Fornax.
Hi,
This planetary nebula in Fornax is truly beautiful!
Ngc 1360 is 6.5 minutes long axis and mag 14.0 images quite easlily and the canon 1100D really picks out the teal blue.
8 minute subs ISO 800 96 minutes total.
Cheers,
Justin.

New one for me too. Nice work!
Edit: just had another look at Marco's Fornax Cluster image, and there's the PN mixed in with the galaxies! My eyes must be painted on!

Justin, you surely are using a Vixen R200SS... some trade-mark characteristics to the images (diffraction spike look, slightly blocky stars etc)
I like it... if the high level cirrus dissipates tonight, I am going to TRY, along with the SN.

The scope I'm using is branded by BINTEL, which is Orion in turn a copy of a vixen.
The main problem with these scopes is tube turbulance, it does'nt seem to settle much until it gets below 10c. In single frames you can see slight flaring on stars, even some of the fainter ones. This certainly gives this blocky look. The other problem is the spider veins, they are made of mild steel and twist just with temerature variation. They need to be made from spring steel.
Having said all that, I'm happy with this scope because it gives a lot of bang for your buck.
Cheers,
Justin.

Hi Justin,
Nice work.
I might try it with an OIII filter just as a test. Never tried it before.
I found this taken by the AAO

Fascinating object - for some reason I always go past this and onto the galaxies with the dob. I'll have to check it out next time!
cheers,
Andrew.

Hi Simon, this planetary in the same general area of sky (ie same constellation) but it is not that near to the Fornax Cluster of galaxies.
Great result Justin, a very lovely blue oval, sitting in a galaxy rich region of the sky

You are absolutely right, I had a closer look and it must be a Galaxy with similar shape and colour.
It appears in your Fornax image too, far right hand side about 1/3 of the way down. Much more apparent in yours as a galaxy, in Marco's it looks like the PN.

You should give this one a go, i'd like to see the difference between the DSLR and the QHY10.

Yes, a lovely looking planetary Justin. You're right, the 1100D picked up the blues nicely.

One of the up sides to an unmodded DSLR, good for comets and planetary nebula.
Cheers,
Justin.
