So with a lot of help I have managed to learn a bit of PixInsight, and reprocessed my old data of NGC 253. I recon its a huge difference from my original attempt.
Thanks Rick. I'm not sure what happened, but yes, it's been mirrored somehow, I didn't even notice! I might have a play with my original in PI as well and see what I can do. I prefer the second, I think it's got more detail and better colour.
Personally I love the colour of the reprocessed one, but the tone of the original. So much detail in the dust lane seems in my opinion to have killed that soft centre glow from the middle of the galaxy.
That is just a personal preference though. The second one really does look sharper and more detailed.
Hi Erik,
I hope you don't mind.
I combined both your images 50/50 opacity & played with the curves
to reveal the barred spiral.
What do you think?
(I had to flip one image & play with transform & warp which left slight star misalignment.)
Not at all. I like it. I know what you mean, Is has lost that central glow. It looked really good at the time, but now I'm not too sure now. Your version is a good compromise between the both.
Erik
