Hi all,

I am taking a different direction in my Astro imaging passion, therefore I have my QHY8L CCD for sale.

The QHY8L is a 6 MP One Shot Colour CCD with regulated single stage cooling of up to 35 degrees below ambient.

The QHY8L uses the Sony ICX413AQ sensor:
- Effective sensor size is 25.1mm x 17.64mm;
- Pixel size 7.8um x 7.8um

Also included is:
- aluminium case,
- cables,
- power supply
- power regulator
- Centre and tilt adjustment ring
- Dessicant plug/tube
- CD with manual, software drivers and EZCAP capture software.

I personally have been using Maxim - it literally keeps the camera at +/- 0.2 degrees from the set-point temperature for hours on end.

I am also happy to transfer my darks library across to a disc and will include that as well.

i. Cone Nebula 4x 20 min subs with the ED120 and WO III reducer @f6
ii. Leo Triplet 4x 20 min subs with the ED120 and WO III reducer @f6


Metropolitan Adelaide Images

i. NGC6188 2x 12 min subs with the ED120 and Hotech Flattener @f7.5
ii. M20 5x 12 min subs with the ED120 and Hotech Flattener @f7.5
iii. Tarantula 4x 12 min subs with the ED120 and Hotech Flattener @f7.5
iv. NGC253 6 x 10 min subs with the ED120 and WO III reducer @f6
v. Lobster Nebula 6 x 10 min subs with the ED120 and WO III reducer @f6

I purchased the QHY8L from Theo at Gama Electronics (Australian Agent for QHY products) in December 2010.

In terms of "issues", not really sure there were any with the QHY8L line of product. I do recall there being frosting issues on the older QHY8... is this what you are refering to?

Yes from memory there were frosting issues with this particular model not the older one. But I might be wrong, is not that I followed the thread at all. It is only recently that I've been thinking about a "cheaper" ccd camera and the consensus is that the QHY8/L are the best in the "cheap" category.

Hi John,

Fair enough, but I have not had any frosting issues whatsoever. I typically set the temperature to around -20 during winter or -15 in summer and have had no issues.

At the end of each session, I am always careful to let the camera "warm-up" rather than just turn of the system. As they say..."slow and steady ....."

I have it basically permanently mounted in my insulated shed/observatory, so it is failry constant conditions inside there when not in use.
