Well had to escape to somewhere out of newcastle to get away from the weather so i went west to singleton where it was clearer skies only just ,so i thought shooting from the home of the worlds largest sundial seemed the go.taken with vixen polarie 400d 55-250 lensf4/6.my small sucker hole

Al, can you give some dimensions for this sundial as I don't think it is the largest in the world. The great Samrat Yantra on Jaipur has a base of 44 meters and rises to a height of 27 meters. It's flanked by two large quadrants of 15 meters radius. It's combined with the Sasthamsa Yantra for measuring the zenith distance and declination of an object. We were there several years ago and it's amazing in its scale. Have photos if you want to see as there is a whole observatory complex there which is really amazing.

You are probably right Allan the street sign up there says the worlds biggest sundial ,but it is no where as big as the one you mentioned ,i would say australias biggest sundial,Official site says it weighs
30 tonnes ,a mere pocket watch as you say

Glad you finally managed to get some imaging of the transit, Al. From the looks of things you in NSW and Vic had a miserable time of it while here in Brisbane we really had an exceptionally clear sky all day. I guess now you really know how it felt for the old timers that travelled half way round the world just to be clouded out for a transit or eclipse.
