out of control? what do you mean? Because of Ken's apparent resignation perhaps? Don't worry, we won't let him go without a fight. Won't let him go period. Everyone, but especially Victorians, and those who went to the star Camp Ken organised will drag him back in kicking-and-screaming if we must!

Thanks for your feedback Steve M, I don't think the site is beyond control, but it's true that as we get larger, there will be more and more people with diverse opinions and ideas. Naturally, that becomes harder to manage, harder to keep the great atmosphere as those people with different opinions and ideas clash.

But the moderators and I will continue to do our best to keep the site running harmoniously, which for the most part it is.

your incentive ??

Astronomy is my hobby, my obsession. When I first got into astronomy there was nothing in Australia like this. The growth of the site shows how much of a need there was, and still is. My incentive is simply seeing this thing I created, continue to grow and provide so much joy for so many people.

I don't make any money out of the site, if that's what you were asking.

Thankyou iceman- very diplomatic. Have learnt many things already from the site so i will gladly make a small donation soon as i can.
As an intermediate amatuer i appreciate everyones work and input into a site like this, and how it is displayed for all to learn from. Nice thing about astronomy- learning will never end.

Members can also assist by reporting any posts that breach the guidelines or they otherwise think shouldnt be there via the "report bad post" function. This is the small red icon in the blue bar above every post.
Surprisingly, the number of members who have used this function before could be counted on the fingers of one hand. All reports are of course handled confidentially.

I wholeheartedly second favourable comments about this site.

I've learnt plenty and learnt very fast by being part of IIS.

I've also enjoyed the sense of community very much and it's added to my enjoyment of this great passion.

This is a great site Mike and the moderators do a great job and as well as being an enjoyable site and forum it is a community where astronomers can talk stars, planets or just utter rubbish Far from being out of control this site has personality courtousey of the members, if this results in the occasional spat, well thats life we are all human beings. I personally don't want this forum to become like the American one's like cloudy nights, conservative and boring

If i didn't know better (after homework) i would ask who Ken is..
BallaratDragons has good insights, and yes, i appreciate the threads.. particularly after having lived in williamstown for 2.5 years and worked for B.Marsh Cobra's as a trainer for a short time: i do miss Vic. as a sailor and diver and now as an an. astronomer specially after having been a part of the sailing community in that region and given what is visually available beyond that latitude.
