Thumbs up Venus, Jupiter and the International Space Station

Last night was another beautiful clear evening and Eliza, Jacob and I were out at Long Jetty for his scouts bike ride.

Eliza and I joined in on part of the ride and I took the opportunity to take my camera and tripod along to capture the conjunction. I had also read during the day that there was an ISS transit, and had hoped that I would be able to capture them in the same frame.

It worked out better than I expected, and was able to capture Venus, Jupiter and the International Space Station transiting just past the conjunction of the planets. It was a magnificent sight as my daughter Eliza and I watched the show over the serene Tuggerah Lake at Long Jetty.

Captured with a Canon 5D Mark II, 24-105mm lens @24mm, 8s exposures @ f/10, ISO800. 2.5 minutes of total exposure.

Eliza and I talked about the astronauts currently on board the ISS and she asked whether they’d be looking down at us I explained to her that they orbit the Earth every 1.5 hours and they get 15 sunrises and sunsets every day! She was amazed.

Nice colours Mike

Do your kids get sick of you stopping to take photo's? Do you get "come on dad, not another photo! can't we just ride?" ?

Thanks guys!

And yes, Roger - it's always the problem on family holidays too Though Eliza was quite patient with me on this night, thankfully

I tried to make it fun and we had a big icecream at the end

But she did enjoy watching the ISS with me.
