ETA finally

Last night finally caught some ETA colour I have tried so many time to capture this in my back yard and in all cases dead pan, no colour or really grainy and what is more surprising is the amount of humidity caused the sky to really glow from light pollution.

Not sure if this should belong in the Beginner AP section but for the equipment but for the equipment I am using not a bad result I think.

Canon 450D - unmodded
EQ2 modified motor control
75-300mm lense (cheap) @200mm
F9
17 x 90 second lights used had to take 40 to get it right.
20 x Darks
40 Flats (Opened Notepad on my computer and shot at the screen on AV)

Nice shot Malcom. I have been taking shots myself of Eta. I have been learning to polar align and tend to use this to see if I have rotation. I like the wide view shot better than some of the close up shots.. Pretty cool

Thanks Martin and Trevor, so many stars it was such a nice sight to see some colour since all my other shots were so bland.

I must admit, having motor trouble on the EQ2 so it took 40 shot to get 17 non drifting images.

Nice image for the gear as u say
What about reducing the subs to say 60 or even less that way u get to keep most, otherwise just wasted time. It's a hard object to image with a non modded camera, i'm in the same boat as u regards this of i use my new camera.

Thx Marcus, it is a challenge and I like it that way, I can now see what is needed instead of getting a computer to align it for me. There will be a time and budget i will get a decent mount, but for someone like me the challenge is worth the effort to eventually build up to the high end mounts.

Running at F9 and ISO 800, 90 seconds is quite good but I may try variable subs another time.
