Modest Horsehead and friends

This is an image from my first guided session. This region was not in my plans, but with my observing friend decided to make a test between modded (and cooled) and unmodded 1000D. Also this is an easy to guide target even for the poor SPC900NC.

The result of the test is that on my stack there is the same quantity of red as on his single stub.

Here is my modest result of the "Big four" of the Orion belt - IC434, Nebula B33(Horsehead), NGC2024(Flame Nebula), NGC2023.

Alnilam is just out of the field and brings mixed feelings to me...

Once I finish my NGC7023 project (I gathered 4h24m data in two nights and trying to process them best) will re-process this image using the new processing techniques that I'm trying to learn and more darks to see if there is something more to get out

Thanks David! It was taken from one of the darkest sites that I had ever been. The Milky Way beside Orion was clearly visible and I am not an eagle eye Most of the time I was just staring in the sky....

BTW your version is one of the reasons to name the theme "modest"

i would go so far to say mine is good , rather i think yours is pretty darn good for a first go - impressive.

because i have to struggle through horrid light pollution the new filter i use also adds to the difficulty of processing the image. Darks skies should be cherished

for the record i could not see the milky way, but could make out the "pot"

I think it is a pretty good effort too

That region is very well imaged to be sure but like a pasta Bolognese sauce...you never tire of it and no two are ever exactly the same .

Very nice Ivo, I don't know what makes it modest. I think it is lovely. Good detail, good colour, good focus, all it needs is a bit more exposure time and it would lift it a bit more. You should be happy with this image.

Well done.

Thank you Doug!

Definitely I'm happy with it, but looking at the great images of this area here and comparing it to the version taken with the modded camera IC434 is a kind of weak.

Orion just started to rise here, so there will be time to take more data on this target if the winter is little bit more clear than the last one.
