Stellarium questions

I downloaded this a few days ago and it is brilliant, but will not stay on my location, it keeps defaulting back to bloody Paris! So I have to buy a licence to make it obey me?

Hi Odille,

When you setup your location Paris is the Stellarium default location.
Refer to the attached picture, then...

Type in the name of your location in the same place I have typed in Kyneton.
Type in the Latitude, longitude and altitude of your location.
Select the country by clicking on the little down arrow and finding Australia.
Check the 'Use as Default'
Click on 'Add to List'

Your new location should now come up as your default.
You can add as many locations as you like, but only one can be the default.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Odille

I am glad you like our program. It has been in development for 10 years now and We are about to bring out version 1.0.0. The first release of the finished program. 0 10.5 was almost complete and we have been working hard to provide the finishing touches and fix the bugs for the last 9 months. No licence is required . It is completely free!

Chris has given you the information you need for your location so I will just add a few bits of information.

Firstly there is a user manual you can download which may help a little even though it has not yet been updated to suit the latest version. It will be updated very shortly to go with the completed program

Secondly, As I am a member of the Stellarium team I will be happy to answer any questions on this forum or the stellarium forum any time you have a problem.

Barry

Thanks Chris & Barry. I think I have got it to come right.

Now, second question. I just had a look at it and it shows the sun coming up! It's a bit early - still pitch black outside. Why is this?

My location is Terranora, Australia, alt 106m, 28° 14' 23" S, 153° 30' 17" E

Hi Odille

The program takes its time from your computer clock and timezone. It does not directly respond to daylight saving so you will need to have the computer on real time. At the moment it needs an entry in the configuration file with the actual name of the time zone. This problem will be fixed eventually. There is a plugin under development to allow local selection of time offset.

As of Build 4786 the local time offset plugin is operational.

Hi Barry, a continuation of this thread. I just dloaded vers 0.10.5. I am having trouble now with my default location ... never have in the past though. When I enter my co-ordinates for EG S 28 53 34.23 it wont let me have 34.23 keeps wanting to change that automatically to different values. Also when I try and edit the location details and then select use as default it offers me a "new location" as the name. I have never had this trouble before. Thanks

I think I had that problem with 0.10.5 at some time but it is OK now on my computer. I originally let the program "have its way" then edited the user_locations.txt to what it should have been. I will try to put your location in and see what happens.

I had no bother with 28 53 34.23 but I did not have the long.
