I recently imaged the tarantula at F/4.8, and got a fair few dark nebulae that I had to confirm with other images... It was 12x10min subs and I'd not seen the dark dusty spot in other images... I dare say what you've captured at F/1.8 is the same stuff, just probably a lot more extended..

I'll probably attack Orion this season.. I've been avoiding it, but I'll probably do it.. If I do, I'll shoot a bunch of 20min subs at F/4.8 and see if I can catch the same amount of light in 2 hours as you got in 20 mins...

Mate, with that FOV and speed and when you are happy with getting good focus, guiding etc you just gotta hammer a few nights out on this field

Looking good for so little exposure. The Hyperstar lens works a treat. Now you know why I love the Tak at f5.

Thanks Doug. It does work really well with the C11. I love widefields and being able to do it with a large aperture scope is even better. Your FSQ106 is a dream scope but unfortunately not the stuff that I'll be ever able to buy.

Marc,

Holy moly! 20 minutes. Yikes!

We gotta get you out to some really dark skies and go to town on Tom's dark nebulae!

Well done, mate. Really looking forward to finalised/calibrated images.

Top stuff.

Humayun

Thanks for the encouragement Andrew. I'm sourcing an A3 EL-sheet or bigger now to fully illuminate the aperture of the C11. Once I have calibration sorted out I'll be cooking.

Thanks H. Should be cool. Really looking forward to it. I'm trying to make sometime this year to go to coonabarabran with a couple of mates from the ASNSW who do regular trips there.

Great result with the Hyperstar lens Marc. Looks nice and deep for only 20 mins worth of data...

I can only imagine what a couple hours worth will manage to bring out.

Great stuff.

Matt

Hi Marc
top quality shot given the exposure time.
I have been wondering how Hyperstar performs and have been looking to see if anyone has paired it with the new Celestron HD optics.

I will keep an eye on your future posts to see how this comes along. Well done.

Martin

Thanks Martin. There is indeed a separate Hyperstar that has been developed for the HD/aplanatic Celestron SCT range. It's also slowly making it in the Meade range.
