Programable remote controller.

Hi,

I'm sure I have seen a thread on this topic but cannot find it. I have a canon 400d and am envious of my mate that sets his 1000d to taken 10 shots with 5 sec delay between and returns at the end while I sit there and click start wait click stop and repeat.

Could someone let me know if I can buy something that will do this. I spoke to Canon today and they said for my camera no go. I thought I saw something were someone had bought something to do the job for under $100. Might be wrong.

You can get a DSUSB and use DSLR shutter with your laptop - works for me.

I got mine (for my Pentax DSLR) from right here on IIS classifieds.
I think they have a few 'clones', mine is branded as Phottix TR-80
Several models to suit camera brands around.

What Steve said. Get one of those timer remotes from ebay. Worth every penny.

At a guess there will be plenty of other options around for controlling a Canon DSLR from software but for my Powershot they seem to be the only player. I've been using the avaluation version a bit and so far so good. I'm also playing with CHDK which lets me write code and put it on the SD card to automate tasks as well as accessing capabilities which Canon built into the camera but not into the user interface.

I'm not sure if it's available for DSLR's but there is work happening on getting it going on the 400D (one post at http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php....html#msg34785) looks like it might be. There are more discussion thread's at http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/board,33.0.html

The version of CHDK for my A640 powershot is amazing in what it unlocks and the things I can set up, worth a look and probably free if it's available.

Thank you all for that. Definately worth investigating even though once going I will still stay outside in the cold enjoying the images as they come in. I might venture inside when I'm taking my darks though.

Ps Blame me for the weather on the sunshine coast as on Saturday night I've organised my forth attempt at holding an imaging session with my Yr 11 Physics class as the other three were rained out. They are predicting rain for this night. Yahoo.

If the 400D has the same software supplied as the 40D, then this is all mute. The software allows live focus and well, total remote control including timed B exposures to any length and number of exposures.

I suspect the 450D was the first model with live focus. I haven't managed to make my 400D work remotely with B exposures without the DSUSB but would be interested to know how if this is possible.
