Restoring speed of XP

For some time my computer had been dragging it's heels and
had become a real pain to boot and download things. Then
AVG upgraded my antivirus from ver 7.5 to ver 8 and immediately
a vast improvement took place in the speed of everything. Then
I bought a copy of RegCure which located some 935 problems
with the registry, and fixed them all. Now I think I am back to the
speed I enjoyed when XP was first installed, maybe my good
luch but it may help some, regards Gerald..

Hey Gerald,

good post, I'm sure my own PCs are both suffering from the same slwoness.

I got around part of it by using Mozilla FF instead of continuing with IE which I've used forever, but I did feel that was sort of skating around the issue, and I still have some other slowness issues. I'd be interested to try your solution, so would you mind telling us how much you padi for the RegCure product and where from?

I just used Google to find RegCure and paid using a credit card, the cost was reasonable,
forget the details, certainly worth the effort, Gerald.

Be wary of so called registry cleaners. They can cause more problems than they fix. Registry settings are there for a reason ! it’s the foundations for the operating system. One wrong deleted line can render the PC and programs useless until a rebuild of the operating system is done.
Better way is
Start
Programs
Accessories
System tools
Disk clean up
Also uninstall any programs that are no longer needed.
Also go to internet options and clear out any old cached internet pages and cookies and old temp files.

With most of us installing and uninstalling sample or trial software from our systems on a fairly regular basis the most useful and probably least used component in Windows is the disk defragmenter. The use of this can often increase the performance of the hard disks and thus the entire system by as much as 100%. It should be used regularly, even when the analisys says it is not required.
Be aware it can take quite some time to do a complete defrag by the results are often worth the wait.

Yep Doug agreed again, it dose take ages, I usually get it off and running and go to bed and leave the computer do It's stuff as long as it wants too.

thanks guys my xp is around 4 years old just done de-frag and clean dick and the internet thing man the computer is flying like it brand new this has never been done since the day we bought it is there any thing else i can do
i dont know a real lot about it
