Last night was relatively clear so having missed out on my "week-end photo fix" I decided to go for it. Was a bit of a hit and miss when the clouds rolled in and out but I still got something out of it.
I finished the Tarantula where I left off with additional data in Ha, so that's now 5.5 hours. My focus was a bit better so it did improve the final image significantly when I recombined the whole lot taking the latest subs as a new reference.
Then I turned quickly to IC434 but got only 1.5 hours on it before the clouds. Still a bit noisy but I think it's coming out ok and adding more data will work nicely.
Gee Marc, thats very nice.
The Ha gives it a very misty feel, certainly shows the features of both in different context.
Nicely done, interesting take on these.

Thanks Chris. Glad you like it. Definitely shows a lot more than what I can capture from dark skies in RGB. I can do a lot from home now.

Thanks Mike. Much appreciated. Yeah... Nailing is still a big word for me ... Maybe next time. My focusing technique for a lack of a better word is a bit rough still until I get a proper focuser. At the moment finding the sweat spot is kind of "jumping" back and forth and go like "Yeah!...don't touch anything!...close enough..." if you know what I mean.
Marc, I've mulled over these images a few times. Very nice Ha work. The excited atoms behind the horse head display the famous curtain like folds - always a visual treat to see. Very good focus on both images. I'm not certain of the flame nebula. The transition from highlights to mid-tones are quite severe - contrasty. This maybe due to heavy sharpening as ultimately that's what sharpening does - alters the contrast between highlights, mid-tones and shadows to emphasise features. This is really a minor item and does not impact the overall beauty of the scene you've capture. Excellent work and keep it up.

Thanks for the feedback Jase, Yeah... you don't miss a thing do you? In order to bring up the faint nebs behind the HH I did a bit of sharpening in CCD Stack and as a result I burnt the flame. I need much more data so when I reprocess I won't have to push so hard and will balance the two accordingly.

Thanks Mick. I use a baader 2" Ha 7nm filter. I'm very happy with it as I can image from my backyard now.
Wonderful images Marc, the curtain behind the Horsehead has come out wonderfully and as Jase mentioned "A real visual treat". You have also captured some nice depth to it as well.
The Tarantula nebula is a great image as well, there is just so much to see in this one with a lot of good fine detail.

Thanks Ric, later on I'd like to use this data as a luminance channel for RGB attempts I did on the HH. Was very faint. Too faint.
