M16 09-09-08

Hi All

This is a 1 hour total exposure ( 6x600sec @ -16 ) taken with Baader MPCC, UV/IR and IDAS LPS2 fitted to SBIG ST2000XCM on WO FLT110 F7 Apo to see if it would work with these filters instead of WO Flat68. As yet I don't know how to fit my UV/IR and LPS2 to camera/scope with Flat68 attached so have been getting bad light pollution in images. The camera came to focus at 102mm on focus tube scale so made it with 13mm to spare

You have brought out a nice red, shame about the high contrast in the image. The background was lit up like my back porch.
Hope you get the filter fix happening fast, cause you will be buying a new one soon i gather..

. I probably won't worry too much about filters as I will be moving to my 5 acre "dark sky" property early next year all things going to plan. So I'll put up with the pollution 'till then. There's probably a way to attach filters to the setup now but I haven't spent much time on it so far to be honest.

Nice image bluescope.

Stars seem a bit fat, I suppose from the no UV/IR block filter.

But you can use the minimum filter in P/Shop to reduce them a bit.

Use the colour range tool to select the bright stars, expand 2 pixels then minimum filter 1 pixel. Then increase saturation 60% to bring the star colours up.

Great image and ditto on the star brightness handling tip. Congrats on the impending move. No amount of filtering can substitute for a really dark sky.

Thanks Paul, keep at it and I'm sure you'll get it one day mate ! I think I have some other images of M16 taken with my newtonians that are probably better than this one. I'm still trying to come to grips with the FLT110 and the lack of good weather is not helping matters.
