Hi IIS members
REGISTRATIONS for Border Stargaze 2008 (28-31st August 2008) are NOW OPEN (click here). Make sure that you book soon!
ASAW is proud to announce that Border Stargaze 2008 will be held at The Wymah Valley Retreat formerly known as The Great Aussie Resort. The exciting news is that the retreat has undergone a major transformation. The quality and types of accommodation available have increased in addition to significant improvements to the existing facilities.
Located in the Greater Hume Shire the Retreat boasts a 300 acre property with a two - kilometer frontage to Lake Hume. It is the ideal site for hosting a star party offering high standards of accommodation and is supported by a great management team.
Only 30km from the twin cities of Albury and Wodonga we are also ideally located to major cities. Melbourne 350kms (3.5hrs), Sydney 560kms (5hrs), Canberra 310kms (3hrs) and Adelaide 764km (8hrs).
The retreat is an ideal location for individuals, families, schools or groups of any size. The amateur astronomer will enjoy excellent observing fields, and the pleasure of a wide range of facilities. - Free Breakfast to registered guests on the Sunday will be returning as will the Cosmodome (Mobile Planetarium).
- Free Registration for children 13 and under (Standard accommodation rates will still apply).
- Guest Speakers
- Astrophotography Workshops
- Astro Activities
- Vendors
- Prizes
- and so much more……
Photos of the accommodation types will be added shortly, however don’t be disappointed - we do have descriptions available online.
The information pack will be loaded shortly, sponsors to be updated, and as always we welcome your feedback on the registration process or questions about the event itself.
Cheers
Petra

Hi guys
You can register early via the link I have included in the post below - we have some minor tweakings to do the ASAW home page which will, when complete, allow you to go to the rego page directly via the home page.
I will keep you posted as updates come to hand. But in a nut shell the rego page is set and ready to go!

Hi Peter
No updated mud map on line yet, it will however be part of our information kit.
Peter, I will send you last years, without the update - it still gives you a good view of the layout regardless.

Hey Petra,
What is the unit type that's right next to the observing feild? (Mum and I were in them last year) we think they are the leasure units.
Also are you organising a community organisation to do the food again?
Hope to see you there Neweyn & Monica

Hi Neweyn & Monica
Yes the Leisure Units are the ones that you are after. Great to hear that you are coming back and look forward to catching up. And, yes, we will be engaging local community organisations to cater again.
Please also note that we have just confirmed that Powered Sites "tent camping" will be available again this year.
Cheers Petra

Hi all
We have not advertised widely yet and already accommodation is filling fast.
For those IISers that are yet to make a booking - can I suggest that you register and book as soon as possible.
Cheers Petra

See you at Border Stargaze 2008
Hi Petra,
Looking forward to seeing you and David there.
Having attended the inaugural Border Stargaze in 2007, we can wholeheartedly
recommend Border Stargaze. This particular venue is well suited to both the individual
observer and families alike, as the accommodation and general amenities
make it suitable for both.
Best Regards

Hi Gary
It will be great to catch up with you and Mai again and thankyou for your support.
We have been run off our feet with early enquires and as said in earlier posts we have not advertised widely yet.
Due to the popularity of the Cosmodome - we are planning to bring it up a day earlier (Wednesday) and base it in Albury for the day to ensure we do not disadvantage those that are unable to make the trip out to the resort.
Its like a mini Border Stargaze, so to speak! Oh yes, and we get to babysit the giant NASA carrot man for the night.
Cheers Petra

Great stuff! I have never seen a star party as family friendly as Border Stargaze
and the Cosmodrome and the NASA carrot man were big hits with the kids.
How many children passed through the Comsodrome last year and how many
are you hoping to get this year?
Best Regards
Gary

Hi Petra.
Just a question about the power on the observing fields.
I am just reading this "
If you plan to use a laptop computer at the telescope, make sure the batteries are fully
charged each day. There will be no access to mains power available at your telescope on
the observing fields." .
If that is true then it will be of no use for imagers to be there unless they have spare batteries and an converter to provide 240 volt for all the accessories.
