Abell 12 Planetary Nebula

Hi Guys,

Gave Abell 12 a shot after seeing scotts and also thanks for the coordinates.
6 x 5 minutes exposure at ISO 400. You can surely see it from just 30 sec exposure.

Now Eric that is very interesting indeed, well captured by the way, however i need to ask this question, it is about the lens flare, or similar spot that i have on mine.

last night i was stuffing around and thought i would take a shot of Acrux, it came out fine, but i too have that spot, and was wondering how to remove it, or is this normal.

Well done mate. Yes its fun digging up the more obscure objects. What makes this one all the more interesting is its proximity to the bright star. On its own the PN would not be as interesting.
Isnt it ironic that both our images show a diffraction spike just "touching" the edge of the nebula. Leoon's however is well between the spikes Interesting how our own processing efforts come up with slightly different colours, and leons is more blue. Mine was with a UHCS filter, Erics with the IDAS filter.

We can see that A12 has a pink edge and a more blue-green interior.

As for the flaring, it can depend not only on the star brightness, but also its colour Im thinking. I should swap my IR/UV and UHCS filters around and see if theres a difference. Currently I have the uv/ir screwed onto the MPCC and then the uhcs.

thanks for your reply guys. thanks for pointing it out doug didnt see the donut, it was actually the flat applying it but there is no dust on that spot that is why it is a white donut rather than a black donut.

yes abit of both houghy. never heard of this object before and im running out of objects to image.

LOL Leon

scott, between the uhc-s and the lps2, it certain alters the colours. also, flaring can cause from the distance of the mpcc to the imaging chip too.

I too imaged A12 after Scott's post, my spikes touch the edge too.

WE need someone to image it with either a refractor or SCT so there will be no diffraction spikes to see the difference. Jeff, how long was your exposure? I take it your CCD has an anti blooming gate. This would be a horror object to image without ABG
