Peltier cooling as SCT from the outside

Just a thought here, but would one achieve anything by fixing say 3 Tec,s dirrectly to the mirror cell in an effort to lower the temberature of the OTA assy in general, These hot days are costing me too much time waiting for temperature differentials to become tollerable.. Or does this introduce a whole new set of issues...

Shaun, Why not install a cheap airconditioner and cool the whole of the building ( which includes the scope ) : inside the 'scope is probably only half the problem.

Hi Satchmo

I did that, a big split system. but the fine from Ergon went ballistic to achieve any result, certainly helps with the mold though when used in a sensible fasion. Hot tropics here 5.46 and still 29 degrees....

I thought a more surgical strike maybe appropriate in the interest of my bank account...

Ah thats the problem , you want a domed `professional ' observatory without paying the cooling bill

Perhaps a Newt with an open truss tube would be better for your climate ?

Satchmo, The building is on a 10 Amp breaker, due to distance limitations also, The Air con kick in will trip it if all the computers and other stuff are going... I need to find a practical solution... to drop the scope temp gradually over a couple of hours wiithout dimming the lights and crashing the PC,s

Paul
I have studied your very infomative thread at SCP, but considered that type of Mod a little too invasive for my ability and confidence, however the results do speak for themselves, and I am very impressed. If It comes to that I would love to get more info from you, as the difference between our scopes is not really of any consequence when it comes to this mod...

But you will have to email me my password, I lost it yonks ago...

Cheers Shawn

each peltier will pull around 4amp.

the main thing is to have a closed system ie let the air inside be continually cooled below ambient..........holes introducing any ambient air really stuffs it

I guess its worth a try then, David . Amps is not an issue the system is closed.

Cheers for your input

Shawn - why not have a big canvas bag with a big zip down the front made up that sits loosely right over the whole scope (and may even be suspended from overhead). Then maybe one of those small and portable room air conditioners (the ones with the exhaust pipe that goes out the window) could be somehow rigged to direct air into the canvas bag over the scope. These small guys are pretty cheap to run in comparison to the 3.5 -hp split system and could be stored out of the way when not in use. A system of snap-ons screwed to the front of the unit could accept another canvas "air gathering" device which could then be connected via a flexible hose to the input hole of the scope bag.

i can see it in my head and it would take me an afternoon to knock up I reckon.

This way you'd only be cooling a comparatively small space - meaning that you could keep the unit turned right down to save cost.

I dunno - maybe an idea...

Cheers
Chris
