Spot lights on Corona Ausralis minus the noise

Thanks for all the nice comments regarding the first versions guys but tonight I changed my mind and although it wasn't too bad the noise was in fact slightly bothersome in the first versions after all

No substitute for having lots of data in the first place (as Jase said 30min Lum is just not enough) but just shows what modern image processing techniques can achieve if you are pressed for time

Full frame image (1.2meg)

Close up crop of the best bits (600K) - ie narrow field Fred! he he he

If you are on dial-up try this smaller full frame version:

Hope these look more pleasing?

Nice rehash Mike. Certainly an improvement. I still think you should try a mosaic of the area with the Starfire sometime. Would look sensation at that FL as the field is not too narrow.

A Mosaic..? When I have an observatory and I'm permanently setup I may just do that!

Hi Scott, my subs these days are 10min mostly. I will ue longer exposures once I feel I am out of the testing phase. Using the same exposure length just helps with callibration as I can use all the same callibration frames each time...lazy

Yep I'm on dial up too and sometimes I just can't be bothered to wait for an image to download if someone posts it too large and I usually say to myself I'll come back to that and often never do . I think 500K - 1meg is sufficiently large for most images to still show enough detail and not be so big that dial up folk don't give up

Hey Mike,
I liked the effect on the first post with the optic distortion on those 2 opposing stars which seemingly shed light upon the object... that was very interesting.
Personal taste, I didn't think it was overly noisy.

I like this crop version too.
Definitely shows what can be done when hard pressed for imaging time.
I think the scope and the camera have a large part in helping to achieve such results in a short period of time.

Nicely done!

All the best
Rich
