Ngc 6207

hi DSI friends,

My attention was drawn on this nice galaxy when I was on vacation in Italy some years ago. I had a 14" dobsonian with me and was pretty much surprised that this galaxy happened to be "bright" and could easily be spotted in the eyepiece.

when I imaged M13 with my 9" TMB Apo at f/7 using a TeleVue 0,8 redcuer some weeks ago I framed the image so that NGC 6207 would also find some place on it.

I did never expect to have some details in luminosity and color there !!!

so I wanted to image her solely. it is most decidedly worth the effort to image this small galaxy. I think it is only the fact that 6207 is so close to M13, the brightest and largest glob.cluster for us "northern hemispherians", that she is not so frequently captured.

here is my result.

date: 13th of july 07
location: ~48° north; 750 sealevel
scope: 9" TMB Apo f/9 and SXV H16 monochrom CCD for luminance (10 min subs, 2.5 hours)
9" TMB Apo f/6.8 (astrophysice reducer) and SXV M25C for color data (12 min subs, 2.8 hours)
seeing and transp.: 6/8

you might wonder, why I used a color cam for colrs, when having a monochromatic CCD for lum...?

well - the reasons:

- I wanted to try combining 2 different systems in one image
- I could not count on another clear night next day, after having taken luminance.
so I had to make sure to collect all essential data for this object in one decent night.
the weather is pretty unstable at my place,...

I used AstroARt4 for image acquisition, autoguiding and a defect map for m25c (one single dark for making a defect)
maxim dl was used for the luminance data and I created a master dark out of 3 dark frames.
CCD sharp and regiszax wavelets for sharpening the luminance and the pseudoluminance drawn out of the M25C data.
PS CS2 for postprocessing; Pix Insight LE for backgroundsmoothening.

Amazing image, Deetz! A beautiful object.

There is also a lot of smaller and fainter galaxies scattered amongst the backdrop, more easily seen in the cropped fullsize version.

That's a fantastic image!!! Lots of dim galaxies in the background to discover too when looking at the hi-res version. Just beautiful!!

Very impressive for a 3 arcmin object. Excellent detail. An outstanding job all around Dietmar - well done! What's the image scale on this by the way?

I love the shot of M13 and the fainter galaxies all in the same image...

I make that around 1 arcsec/pixel at F6.8 - maybe achieving around 2.5 or so (?) Fine work!

I saw your image of Ngc 6207 of the SX group.... and also on Anacortes..
You get around....

Both very darn nice images.
I like the way you've shown Ngc6207 and its relationship with M13 with the Televue, then hunted it down with the super large 9" TMB weapon you have.
Damn you have some gear

hi again,

13° Celsius (55° Farenheit), fog, rain, clouds in mid august...we are supposed to sewat at 35° celsius in summer,...so it is time to reprocess old data.
and I did this with my ngc 6207 data.

the final result can be found here:
I payed much more attention to the starcolor and detail in the core of the galaxy.
