Opinions on skywatcher sw252 10"

Hi,
I was wondering what people here thought of the above scope. Are they worth the money (assuming the EQ6 mount as standard) or is it better to keep away. Also would anybody have an idea how much they would go for second hand ?

at this point I don't want to go into too much detail publicly.

I bought a version 3 synscan at christmas, it was faulty, received a warranty replacement, it too was faulty, received a second warranty replacement, it too is faulty.

But what of the SkyWatcher SW252 10" scope - which was the original point (and title) of this thread????

That's what I was referring to in my first post.

The original post was regarding a 10" skywatcher on an eq-6, a whole package.

I have no problem with the optics part of the package, but I do with the eq-6. Hence my comment, which I believe directly relates to the thread...

cheers

I hope all you guys that are having problems with the eq6 are emailing the company concerned. Maybe they will fix whatever it is that keeps going amiss.
Nothing wrong with the optics side on the one i looked through. But i did buy a 12"dob from Bintel.
It was more the problems with the eq6 that changed my mind.
Cheers,
Duncan

Look at thread title. Look at first sentence.

I could be wrong, but the word scope suggests to me we're examining the scope...not necessarily the mount/scope package, although I'm sure noelo appreciates the comments about the 'package'.

Anyhoo.. I know a few people who own these and are very happy, and I've seen some good images taken with them.

Like any mass produced scope with mass produced optics, there will be a degree of variation in optical quality from scope to scope.

Overall, however, I think they are good for the money you pay.

If you buy one and you are unhappy with the optics (assuming you know how to test/judge), you could always return the scope for another unit.

Quote from my reply above

"I have no problem with the optics part of the package"

You will also see that I have had 2 faulty replacements under warranty...........

Anyone else willing to offer an opinion on the SkyWatcher SW252 10" scope to help noelo out?

I have the Dob mounted version (the OTA is exactly the same) and it's a great Newt - better built than the GSOs in a number of important respects. Optics is as good as I've had.

The skywatcher 10" newt's are a great scope. You can't really go wrong with them.

Whether you dob mount it or EQ6 mount it, is a different story and depends whether you want to do any photography with it, viewing habits, portability and setup time, etc.
