Eta Carina & Lagoon Last Night

Two single shot images from last night. We still have to get our alignment better for long unguided exposures as well as focusing, but we're getting there with practice.

On our buy list:::Low profile focuser..Laptop..Off axis guider..MPCC.

As beginners we're pleased with our efforts so far but we've still got a long way to go......But we'll keep trying to improve

D & B

Pentax ist DL .. Skywatcher 8" Newt unguided

1. Eta Carina 1 x 1min 45sec ISO 800

2. Lagoon Neb 1 x 2min ISO 800

Basic processing in PS 7

Excellent for single exposures. Well done. The Keyhole region of Eta Carinae is especially attractive.

Nicely framed shots B&D ! man the exposures are so short It's easy to see the potential with more exposure time on these.

Thanks for the comments guys.

We got ourselves a Laptop today so we can check our focus and alignment at the scope rather than having to take the camera off and check everything on the computer inside so hopefully this will help us improve a little more.

Hi Nick

Was wondering how you find the focusing with the JMI hand controller on the Rack & Pinion focuser.

In the Eta Carina shot the stars in the centre are better than those towards the edge of field.

Could it be that some of this problem is coma as well as tracking or is it all a result of tracking.

Would appreciate any advice that can be given.
