Having purchased Asimov's EQ7.5 (cos it way tougher than an eq6), i want to make it a project to drive it for dso stuff down the track
I have only just started browsing, but where would the best place in Aussie to buy motors from
As a start??

Here's one alternative for the EQ6

http://www.micgiga.com/products/deta...p?product_id=3

(I know you said Australia but...)

I have the Astromeccanica DA-1 and motors on a Vixen SP mount and I'm very happy with them.
Delivery was about one week after I placed the order.

hi Dave, if your starting from scratch go a belt drive and stepper motor option, l've done a lot of research lately and gear drive is just not worth the grief, belt drive will eliminate a lot of problems right from the start.

just me and asi being silly, you know how it is.

if it held his old 12.5" nebula pumper, then it had to be better than an eq6, hence coined the term eq7.5?????

Thanks Mick, I am getting a few of asi's motors sent with it and I have some good steppers currently in the dob driver II, so will be keen to have a look at the belt system.

Look out Ken, I am following in your footsteps!

Davo,
knowing your ability to fabricate something, I am with Mick. Belt is better, but where the heck will you put a wheel that the belt will bear/ride on? Come to think of it though, a wheel rubbing/running on another, like the DD2 may be feasible.
I'll be watching this one.

See i knew it all along, they all secretly wanted dobs but didnt want to admit it

On the other hand, after I get my SDM, I might be looking into building an 8" thin mirror planetary optimised apo killer newt with some sort of tracking mount
