While on a family holiday to the sleepy little location of Pindimar, NSW, located in a sparsely populated area on the north shore of Port Stephens, I was very happy to find incredibly dark skies. While the south shore of Port Stephens has lights and holiday visitors, it is far away and does not impact viewing. Even though I live in a fairly dark location, on Lake Macquarie, the ever encroaching civilisation has over the years had an impact on astronomy. I can say with certainty, that Pindimar has taken me back ten years to a darker time. Highly recommended for a clear night.
