A favour - mini cassette tape player

Hi All


I am hoping to digitise some tapes recorded by my grandmother, the problem is, the only player I have does not have an audio out (ie no headphone connection).


If any has one that I could borrow for a few weeks, that would be much appreciated. Preferably on the east side of Melbourne.


The tapes are smaller than standard, only about 56 x 35 mm.

I think you can connect some wires to your speaker and that will do it..I would do that when I was 17 Jack at one end and bulldog clips at the other..

Hi Philip,

Does the player have a 'line-out' socket?

Also, that's a strange size for an audio cassette - is it one of those DATs (Digital Audio Tape) that were around for a couple of years in the erlry/mid 90s?

(I don't have a player of any old-school magnetic media, so can't offer any assistance, I'm afraid.)

If your talking mini and not micro tape players, try dictation player, they can be had for around $30 on amazon ebay etc still...

Thanks for the suggestions, the tapes are from a dictaphone, they used to be very common.


There is no line out on the dictaphone I have, just the speaker.

Altec will do conversions at $10 a tape and there just north of Dandenong, but seems a little expensive.

You could try and open the player and use two alligator clips from where the speaker wires connect to the speakers and use that to jack the signal out.
