Street astronomer in Rovinj, Croatia

Hi,
On our last trave we went to Croatia. Traveled by ferry from Zadar to Pula, and then bus to Rovinj, Porec and at last to Rijeka. Along this trip we find things related to astronomy.

In Rovinj we met a street astronomer, Josip. He took his heavy 10" Newton telescope down to the square of Rovinj and let the people look through his telescope.

More information and some photos from that visit:

Hi Lars,

Thank you for this report, it joggled my fond memories of good times when I was young

There are many more things related to astronomy happening in that country, especially in Istra peninsula.. to name just a couple of them:

Astronomical Observatory Pula
It is also a home of GMN, Global Meteor Network.

Visnjan Observatory (famous for asteroids hunt)

During my high school days (late '60es of the last century), I was very active on Zagreb's Astronomical Observatory.. then life happened and I ended up here in Oz :-)

That’s a great story Lars. I have caught up with fellow amateur astronomers on overseas trips before and it is a great way to share stories and get to know the locals.

Clear skies,
Rodney

Hi Bojan,
It's fantastic that you have been there working. We also visited Naval Observatory in Pula which I have just start a new thread about.

Hi Rodney,
Croatia is a fantastic country, the coast village is a must to see.

We setup a list of astronomical places we could visit in Croatia, look at our astronomy list at bottom here:

I will soon start writing about our travel in Croatia.
