Son in Hospital

Many of you know my son Campbell...unexpectedly he went into the hospital on Saturday...he was disoriented, confused and in great discomfort. We are hopeful that he will get out on Wednesday (or so)...

He had been suffering from a severe sinus infection for the last two weeks which we thought had been brought under control with medication...we were wrong.

For those of you who know Cam, he is a very articulate 8 year old and able to express himself very well...on Saturday suddenly, he was unable to complete a sentence and began to empty his stomach contents (not pleasant)...it was very frightening for my wife and I. We took him to the hospital pretty quickly after that.

They ran all kinds of tests and he has been negative for the real nasty stuff...when we saw his CAT scan, it was obvious that his sinus cavities were full of infection...

After a few days of IV antibiotics and fluids he is improving but is still pretty "muddled"but can communicate again...he is not yet interested in reading which is a shocking thing as he loves to read...we are hopeful that in the next few days he will be back to his old self again...

That's terrible news, Scott, but it is great news that Campbell is out of the woods and on the road to recovery.

My wife had a sinus infection a few months ago, but fortunately antibiotics kept on top of it before it deteriorated the way it did for your son.

I look forward to waxing lyrical with Campbell again at the next star party he comes to! He's a very well spoken and intelligent boy.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

My sympathy, Scott. Having gone through the mill with my two (many years ago) I can imagine what you're experiencing.

All the best to the lad. I trust the medicos will get him back on the straight and level in a short time.

Sorry to hear that about young Campbell, I'm glad to hear he is recovering.
I feel for what you must have gone through until they found out the problem Scott.
My well wishes are with Campell and hope to see him back to his usual bright, energetic, articulate self again, sharing stories and cookies with us all.

There's been a nasty respiratory bug going around my town recently that I've managed to pick up. My ears and head feel pressurized all the time, for the last week or so. Never had sinus trouble before. After reading about Campbell maybe I'll go to the Doc and get checked out.

A friends kid is in hospital with bad fever.

ditto, I had that too. Took some sudafed which gave relief until it went away. Took a few days though.
Luckily it didn't turn into an infection as it did for poor campbell.

He should recover soon. The main thing is that experts have ruled out the nasties. When ones inner ear is clogged with infection it affects ones balance. Time and the antbiotics will fix it.

Thanks All for the support!

Seems like my family has needed a bit of it lately! Back home they say that bad things come in threes...I've got two already covered!

Cam is set to come home tomorrow, assuming no problems come up in the night or early morning, the last set of blood work/tests came up as they should...

He was clearly feeling much better this afternoon. Although he was still very weak and pretty fragile but he was interested in "debating" with me on a number of topics and pointing out how my thinking is wrong headed...that is my boy!

It will still be a few days before he will be back to full speed no doubt but I am confident that he will "bounce back", something a few days ago I was not certain about...modern science and the resiliancy of children make "medicine" work.

Again thanks to all in the community for offering encouragement...

Cheers!

That's excellent news Scott; it's always such a relief when you can see the welcome and pleasing end to these bouts of illness that plague, and frighten us, from time to time.

Cheers

Dennis

Ditto from me. Campbell is a great kid, I hope he bounces back quickly, and that we see him again very soon at Kulnura.
