Baader Steeltrack and 180 Mak

My new focuser arrived today, and I thought I'd post some installation notes in case anyone else was thinking of using the same with a Skywatcher 180 Mak.

The Baader part number is 2957220.

After removing the stock visual back adapter it was a straightforward fit. I was able to screw it on and tighten without having to disassemble anything on the focuser. I was wondering about clearance issues with the Mak's focuser, but was just able to squeeze past on the final turn. The rubber sleeve on the Mak focuser helped.

Weight of OTA including focuser and diagonal is approx. 9kg. Focuser adds approx 36mm to light path fully retracted, and has 30mm travel. I reckon about 50mm extra from mid-point. The last photo shows the stock adapter on top of Steeltrack. Payload capacity 6kg.

There is plenty of clearance between Steeltrack and Mak focuser. It is smooth and solid, and I can't wait to try it out, once I pay off the NEQ6.

Cheers
Stephen

Mine had what I considered to be excessive mirror shift, so I sent it back and
it was returned about a month later with almost undetectable shift, and it stayed that way.
