Jupiter 18 March (local) with GRS

last night had another attempt at getting jupiter. Some scattered cloud about and the seeing was 4/10. Image was moving around all over the place. Seeing her of late has not been the best, it makes focus very hard. This shot was taken 1430 UT 17 March 05.

GRS spot was visible all though hard to see on the screen.

cleaned up in Astra image
despeckle in PS

Cloud detail present with Southern polar region and temporate zones showing more detail than normal. Some detail in the GRS, and festooning an barges present in theequatorial belt.

Dark spot on the Northern eq belt lower right is in fact a dust donut on the filter of the toucam, it needs to be cleaned off.

I think that collimation can now be put to rest, as this shot would have been a lot better if the seeing was at least 7/10 and it was a little sharper.

Anyway comments welcome. Would like to know what Bird thinks and any tips that he gave give me to improve now.

Nice shot Paul, you seem to be getting the bum end of the seeing lately.
Can't wait for you to get a night of steady air.

Yeah Paul, nice stuff though. the air was wobbly last night as can be seen by my paltry effort. Steep learning curve this.

Looks good to me... you can't control the seeing, but that looks like about as good as you could expect.

It's really coming together for you Paul. Great colour apart from the blue on the right of the original. Is the focus a bit soft or was it the seeing. The original looks a bit "grainy" as well. I tried to adjust it in Reg3 but as soon as I touched the wavelets it looked like I was viewing it through a piece of honeycomb.

Looks like you're picking up the ToUcaming bug pretty quick Peter. Great second go. Looks like your getting my "Ring around Jupiter" effect though. Wish I could work out what's causing it.

I think the ring is cause probably by overprocessing. To get rid of it, the image goes too "soft". Back to the drawing board methinks.

Nothing painful about it Peter. You're going ahead in leaps and bounds. Definately better than the previous one.

At least for me shots I don't think the ring is from over processing Peter. In the avies I've taken that show it, the ring starts to appear as soon as I start waveletting. Sometimes its visible even before I start. I think it has to do with a combination of capture speed (fps) and exposure speed , resolution and donwload rate of the USB cable. Unfortunately I haven't had any decent sky over the last few weeks to test out my ideas.

Keep on posting these fine shots. As the saying goes, "Make hay while the sun shines" or in our case "Take avies when the clouds are gone"
