Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Apparently there are huge issues with this, so those that have Windows 10 installed, think twice about the update and defer if possible. This article gives some indicators of the issues.

i am trying to find away of fixing 2 Western Digital drives from my daughters PC that were killed while updating win10

edit: so this happened during an update - not an install/upgrade
not only did it kill the "system" drive = but the (slave) drive as well. both drives are now not recognised on boot up

geoff

I've updated 4 computers over the last 2 days without any problems at all. The computers were fairly varied too: 2 laptops - XPS15 and MacBook Air11, and 2 desktops: an I7 gaming box and a Xeon based workstation.
Maybe I've been lucky, but then I've never had anything not work for me on any computer I've had running Win8.1 and onwards.

Good old Microsoft have done it again. Apparently they put out a patch on the eve of the update and this is the culprit. This mob really do not get it, why put out an untested patch on the eve of a major upgrade.

So when do you know if it is ok to do the update? After doing some reading I have changed my wifi to metered apparently this stops or delays auto update. What version do I check for on my machine to see if it is the anniversary edition. That said my macine was originally win 8.1 and since installing win10 a year ago no issues. My win7 in contrast had heaps issues so I rolled back.

My fully up to date Win10, with the anniversary update, is version 1607.

Thanks Hugh, mine is still 1511. Not sure whether to risk anniversary update now or wait a few weeks.

It doesn't really add anything that you can't wait an extra few weeks for so if you're worried then just wait a bit.
That being said all my updated boxes are still running perfectly.

Here is another interesting article on how to block the update regardless of what version you have installed:
