My Latest New Build

Mental4Astro gave me a 4"Bushnell Reflector recently that came in a damaged carton. The scope was complete with a tripod but as these things go the tripod is not that stable.
With some leftover 15mm ply and the Mental's encouragement I designed and built a Dob mount for telescope. I had Mental's guidance and used some of his tools in the build too.

My intention is to give it to the grandchildren for Christmas.

It has 4 flashing leds in the portholes and I've used bottle tops and left over paint as decorations. The circuit board came from an old mobile phone and the key pad have been glued on as well for interest.

Looks like a lot of fun Peter: well done! love the "rocket" design.
Not sure about the flashing LED's at night though...
I am sure the Grandies will love it.

First Light

The grand kids go to bed so early that I had to wait until Mid June on a sleep over for them to use the scope for the first time.
Sarah, 5yrs old, looking at Jupiter and the Galilean moons says...
"I can see 1,2,3,4,5 stars. The big one must be a planet."
Holly, 3 yrs old, "I can see the moon, but not all of it."
Mars was unremarkable but Saturn was a hit.
